Choosing the right material is arguably more important than the design itself. A beautiful sign made from the wrong material will fade, warp, or crack within months.
Acrylic (Perspex) — The premium choice for illuminated signage and interior applications. Cast acrylic offers crystal-clear transparency, excellent light transmission for backlighting, and comes in 100+ colors. It's weather-resistant, UV-stable, and easy to CNC-route into complex shapes. Drawback: heavier than alternatives and more expensive.
Aluminum — The workhorse of commercial signage. Lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and available in brushed, anodized, or painted finishes. Perfect for flat panel signs, door plates, and wayfinding systems. Aluminum composite (ACM/Alucobond) offers rigidity at a fraction of solid aluminum's weight.
PVC Foam Board — The budget-friendly option that punches above its weight. Lightweight, easy to cut, and available in 3mm to 20mm thicknesses. Ideal for temporary signage, exhibition displays, and indoor applications. Not suitable for long-term outdoor use without UV-protective lamination.
Our Recommendation: For outdoor storefronts, use acrylic letters on aluminum returns. For interior wayfinding, brushed aluminum with laser engraving. For events and temporary displays, PVC foam with UV-laminated prints.
